Maybe if I fiddled with the settings I could get a nice result, but by default Aftershot Pro wins this round. Clearly Capture One has les noise, but this time there is less detail too.
I chose another random image today, the results were a little bit different than last night. However, for those rare photos that are shot in extreme conditions and you need to get the most out of it then I do fiddle with Capture One. I still prefer it for converting raw files that do not need special editing. The program is so fast at exporting that makes all other programs look ancient in comparison. I still use and prefer Corel AfterShot Pro The Express version costs even less than Adobe Lightroom!

With Corel being ignorrant about Aftershot Pro and Phase One selling better software at a lower price it seems that all photographers (pro and not) should consider Capture One. If only they could understand the diamond they have in their hands. Is there any hope that Phase One will support Linux in the near future? Will Aftershot Pro release a new version soon, capable of great results? The feeling that users have is that Corel has abandoned Aftershot, which is of course a shame because it is a very good piece of software. Considering that Capture One Express is actually cheaper than Aftershot Pro this would be a no brainer if I was not using Linux.

Needless to say that I am seriously thinking of getting a Windows machine to work with Capture One. I am wondering what Capture One Pro 7 (Mac/Win) can achieve, if the Express and older version is this good what can I expect from the latest and pro version? After all photography is about expanding your limits and it seems that Aftershot is the one limiting me, not my old and trusted EOS. I know that Aftershot Pro is the fastest program in the whole universe when it comes to RAW conversion, but with such a difference in quality I'm having second thoughts about it. This was my image, with my dSLR and my lenses. I installed the 32bit version on a Windows7 virtual machine and opened one image at random. But I would be an idiot to ignore their software. I couldn't resist of course, we are talking about PhaseOne here, who could? I can't afford their cameras, and truth be told I wouldn't even know what to do with one of them.
